Pre-Tour Day 1: Landing in Frankfurt and Making Our Way to
|
Brett is taking another look to make sure we are on the right platform for our train journey. We took a train from platform 2a, which you'll notice doesn't mention Bacharach as a stop. It does in fact stop there. Check with the information booth as weekends and holidays can change things.

Hotel Zur Post, our family room, and the rustic breakfast room with fantastic breakfast including perfectly boiled eggs. You'll find them in the cute hen basket!

Kelman's CatalogueAccommodation - Hotel Zur Post for 2 nights in a simple and clean family room in a quiet location (i.e. not along the train tracks), great breakfast, and fantastic hostess in Ute. She was kind enough to let us come down early for breakfast the morning we checked out so we could catch our train to Trier.
Meals - Restaurant Zur Kupferkanne and Bastian's Weingut zum Gruner Baum. Would We Stay Here Again? - YES! It was the perfect base for our exploration of the Rhine and to taste some of that famous Rhine wine. It was a great little town to recover from our flight in, and was a great way to start this trip not just for its' charm but also for its' location between Frankfurt and the start of our tour in Trier. |
Arriving in Bacharach
Rick suggests arriving early and we took him up on that suggestion by starting with 2 nights on the Rhine. The train tracks from Frankfurt to Bacharach run right along the Rhine River and as we whistled along on the train towards Bacharach I became giddy with excitement at seeing the Rhine River! After exiting the train we easily found our lodgings, Hotel zur Post, as the town is quite small. The proprietor, Ute, was delightful and showed us to our family room for the next 2 nights. We did a quick refresh and then headed out to wander the town for a little walking and to find some dinner.
Zeit fur das Abendessen!
